The renewal raised the bar

The renewal application is an audit—with a premium attached.

The application is longer than last year.

The insurance renewal got harder

Context behind the pressure

It asks yes-or-no questions about specific controls—multifactor authentication, backups, endpoint protection, incident response—and the answers now influence premium, conditions, or whether coverage is offered. Somebody has to sign it. The uncomfortable part: nobody is fully certain the answers are true across the whole environment.

You are likely here if

The pressure is specific. The answer is not yet.

  1. 01

The application asks whether controls are in place “across all systems,” and the honest answer is “on most of them, we think.”

  2. 02

The premium or deductible moved enough that leadership is asking whether the controls—or the insurer—should change.

  3. 03

Whoever signs the application has started asking what happens if an answer turns out to be wrong during a claim.

The decision on the table

Name the decision before choosing the deliverable. It keeps the work tied to the business question that created the pressure.

Make three decisions before binding: what you can attest as true today—verified, not assumed; which gaps are worth closing before the renewal date versus disclosing; and whether the program should be shaped by the insurer’s checklist or by your own risk picture, with the application answered from it. An inaccurate attestation surfaces at the worst possible moment: during a claim.

Ackatec’s working view

A position before a proposal.

  1. 01

The insurer’s checklist is a floor, not a strategy.

Verify what is actually true, decide what to improve for the business, and let the application inherit the answer.

  2. 02

    Verified is the standard.

The distance between “we rolled out multifactor authentication” and “it is enforced on every account that matters” is exactly the distance the signer needs to understand.

  3. 03

The renewal is leverage, not just cost.

A documented, owned program gives the broker evidence to work with—and the same document is useful inside the business.

Attestation review

Every attestation in the application, converted into something the signer can stand behind.

Working structure

  1. 01

    Application decomposition

Each attestation restated as a checkable fact.

  2. 02

    Verification status

For each fact: verified true, true with exceptions, or not currently true—with an evidence source, not a recollection.

  3. 03

    Exception register

Where “true with exceptions” lives, what the exceptions are, and the disclosure points to review with the broker.

  4. 04

    Pre-binding fixes

Gaps that can be closed before the renewal date, sequenced by effort and effect.

  5. 05

    Program delta

Where the insurer’s floor and the organization’s actual risk picture disagree, in both directions.

The review exists so the person signing knows what they are signing. Disclosure and negotiation decisions stay with the organization, its broker, and counsel.

This is Ackatec’s working structure for the situation—shaped to each organization in the first sessions, not a sample of past client work.
